I too have been thinking of opening a fish store. Here are some of the ideas I have come up with.....
a nice 150g display tank.
set up the store with most if not all of the filters behind the wall or out of site.
3 other tanks set up one with fish only 30g or so with a good, not top of the line filters. to get the lower budget people hooked. second one a 50g with all good filters/sump and ok lights to get the more advanced fish collector. and a third with all the bells and whistles on it to show them you can have a mini reef in your home with out taking th whole room up.
a nice fat friendly bench in front of your for sale fish. so fat people like me can sit and watch the fish while I think of how many big macs I will have to not get to get the fish I want.
A sales person that knows what they are talking about. And if they dont know, dont try to make a guess just say I have no clue but I will help you look it up or find out from someone that knows.
a 300 g pond with live rock for the picking.
ability to special order fish you dont nomaly stock
A service where you go to the customer and service there tank for a fee.
cheap RO water and mixed water
a frequent buyers program.... buy 2 fish get free water or a % off another fish .... buy 4 g of water get the 5th free.... for every 100$ spent get a % off an item.... stuff like that.
try to match any online price as well as any local stores.
its late but there are some of my ideas. if you want more E-mail me at
