Do a vacation there find out what it costs a month to live comfortably, food, rent, taxes a car, insurance, etc. Check on jobs there. Make sure you have enough to survive for 6 months (A year would be better) and enough left over to get back home if things don't work out. You might want to check with your employer before you go to see if they have an opening. JMO

Thought about the military? I came from a small town, just like you.
I joined the Navy 4 months after graduating high school and dont regret it for one second.
I got a Bachelors in 2 years, saw 42 counties before I was 21 years old and have lived all over the world.

Remember if you join the military in this day and age, you have a good chance of going to war. So if that is not an option for you, you might want to think twice about it.

You may want to go to Florida like the Keys..See how you like it there first. There's nice blue water, sandy beaches, sun etc It's not St Martin but you would be able to get a job easier and it wouldn't cost you as much. I have been to St Martin and you may find it's not all paradise once you get away from the vacation area's..There is a lot of Drugs and Crime there also.

Maybe working on a fishing boat, which from what I understand is very hard work and actually has little to do with the ocean in the way I think you are talking about. I would think that anything to do with the ocean in the way you are talking would require college. Maybe learning to collect fish for the aqaurium trade, but I'm pretty sure that would require some kind of schooling. Another thing to remember sometimes your passion becomes quite boring and you learn to dislike it when you HAVE to do it. I love the "mechanics" of aquariums, so I thought it would be fun to service tanks for a friends pet store on off days, It became such a nuisance that i left the hobbie for a long time.

I completley agree ! 4 years army here. You can see places for free everything is paid for and I made friends in the military that I am closer to than people back home I'd known for 20 years. Can't explain it but you make bonds like no other. AW2, 42 countries, that's pretty good. What was your MOS ?

In many cases the military will pay for your college. It did mine. I didn't go until after I was out though. I was having too much fun running around acting like a fool while serving.Okay I'm done promoting the military. Anthony from your bio it looks like you are only 17/18 years old. You've got that world by the balls at that age. My opinion is you should do and see as much as you can before life's big responsibilties kick in, marriage , kids.. being responsible for someone else besides yourself is what I mean.

getting a loan and paying for college youself shapes you better as a person than having someone forces you into a committment with the lure of free tuition.

The military doesn't Force anyone into a commitment. You "join." It is a bonus that comes with the enlistment just as perhaps choice of duty station. I wouldn't suggest anyone join the military just for the college money alone. I will say though that I agree paying your own way in life no matter what is for gives you a better sense of accompishment and proud of what you've got wether it's college or a new car but the military is a sure bet on "shaping" yourself.

How are you "forced" to join the military? Do they hold a gun to your head, threaten your life, hold your parents hostage?
You don't HAVE to do anything in this world. There are only two things you have no control over, birth and death.

You responded to the post about joining the military and saying they lure you with free commitment forcing you to join.

Because that was discussed............before your post. You did not quote anything so basic assumption would be your response was to the immediate previous post or topic.
