ok i have the glass(well all but the bottom pane) to build a 227 gallon tank... im not allowed to build it and set it up till i move you.. i can build it and sell it if i have a buyer.. but other than that it has to stay in pieces. the bottom pane is going to cost about $125. and i know if i sell, ill make a nice profit. but ill never get a tank this large for this cheap again. if you had the choise,, would you build and sell, or wait and set it up.... i really want to set it up as a large fish only agressive tank. i got all but the bottom pane of glass for free. when built it will measure 73.75 inches long, 30.25 inches high, and 23.50 inches wide
so i guess the question is,, what would you do.

Save it 'til you can set it up for yourself. That'd be my choice. Reason being... any size tank you get, you will always want a bigger one, and a 227 is pretty big. Then when you post a million pics of it, and everyone thinks it's awesome you can say that YOU built it. And if they want one it will only cost ??+labor and you can potentially make out like a bandit!!

i know i could pull 4-500 profit easy if i sold it. but then again.. name one place you could buy a 227gallon for less than 200 bucks.

I'd be kinda weary about building a 200+ gallon tank on my own unless I was a professional. I'd also be weary about buying a tank that big from someone who's not a pro. I just read about someone on another board with a 250 gallon tank who had $20k+ in SPS corals and livestock so IMO the tank is one of the most important parts of a setup to get right.

yeah, i see your point. im scared of it blowing also.. but if its done right, there really shouldnt be any problems.. ill reasearch building it quite a bit before i get to work.

I've got a feeling that the equipment including clamps and such for building a tank of that size would cost hundreds/thousands, the drilling you could have done at a glass shop. BTW the tank I talked about above was built by Oceanic so that goes to show that you're never out of the clear with a tank no matter who builds it.

i got a 500 gallon tank that was cracked , i got the new glass piece for free when i purchased the tank from my neighbor..... i decided to get it done professionally, as you should do , $1249.99 later i had a 1500 dollar 500 gallon tank... still cheaper than what they are new.... i personally would never put together a tank, the one major WHAT IF scares me.. i hate to see a thread of your new tank exploding cuz the seal was bad... jmo.
btw i sold the 500 gal 800w vho, and 15 fish for 6500... nic lil profit
