Wow, what a horrible story. I read this thread last night and refrained from posting cuz I wasn't sure what to say.
Still all I can say is: How incredibly sad. I was crying before I reached the end of the article. That poor couple and what they went thru, it's simply heartbreaking!
As for the rest of the people in this story, I don't have to judge them. I am glad of this, and won't even go there!

At another point of the article, the family had said the medics had reached the door.
this is screwed up all the way around in my opinion. Personally I think the man who cried wolf the 100 times before is to blame.

Sounds more to me like they got there as a result of one of her previous calls if they were there that fast. It will be interesting to see all the details come out.
Doesn't sound like it to me.
The snow had long since stopped falling. It took firefighters two minutes from being dispatched to reach the couple's home.

In every county I've lived in the Firefighters where typically first responders to Medical emergencies, then the ambulance would show up. Just because of logistics. I've never seen an Abulance show up first. It is always the firetrucks.

If the man was told he had to walk to the ambulance for help, it must have not been so unrealistically far that the people in that ambulance couldn't have pulled up their knickers and gone in.....
I'm not a stranger to snow, I'm from Canada. I'm not a stranger to the plights of anyone in the field, I work it. I also get prioritizing in "disasters", but if they were that close.....
It doesn't sound like they were very financially sound and were probably living in the bad part of town.... I wonder how long the wait time was in the richy neighborhoods.

This is true, unless the fire department was so busy that they couldn't send a crew which I'm betting is the case.
