It's a Tee Tree Anemone Nudibranch. They eat glass and acrylic but can chew plastic for short periods of time. I knew a guy who had his entire 55 gallon tank eaten by a large one. That was bad enough but then it started on his new low-E storm windows, got outside and began chewing up the vinyl siding.

Well DON'T use Acrylic tongs to pick it up!!
Hey... you said if I didn't know what it was I should make something up... so I did :D
I would keep it. That's one of the most bizzare creatures I've ever seen. Really cool!

It's the orange afghan I started knitting but gave up on after 5 minutes. How'd it get in your tank?

I'm not sure Wrasse but, It looks like a good start. Here is another pic with more accurate color representation. It is 3/4" long.

I am just wondering if I should get it out of the tank or be happy with my hitcher. I honestly am pretty surprised that someone has not rattled off the name of this creature......you guys are slippin':D

its not- lettuce nudis have more wavy ripples down their dorsal side-rather than individual segments. i have seen those before and they seem to forage on algae- not sure of the exact name though

This image I just took shows the head and tail a little bit better. I have been looking at the Sea Slug Forum for the last two hours without finding one that looks like it.

There is a pic on page 304 of the The Reef Aquarium Vol. one that shows a lot resemblence to your pic. If it is the same thing the book says it is a Tritoniopsis nudi which is a predator to leather corals.
