whats growing in my protein skimmer

there are white chunks covering the inside of my protein skimmer...what are these things? am i supposed to take that part off and clean it? sorry to be so ignorant...just new. The protein skimmer has been on the tank 5 months.

I'm not very familiar with skimmers barbie, but just from your description, could it be calcium?

I have the Seaclone 150 on my ninety. Its a new tank not done with the cycle but theres not so much as one little bubble getting to the top. Anyone have any idea how to know if this thing is woking right.

I have a Seaclone 100 and I have the same white spots all in it also. The spots are actually hard to the touch. I was thinking it was calcium.
