whats in my sand?

Hi, Everyone. I have been cycling a 33 g tank. I have been noticing what looks like algea from my live rock in my sand is this possible? I don't want to be paronoid, But it is my first salt water tank. Is this a good thing or bad thing? Thanks for your help.

Yes, this is not just possible, but common.
Google diatoms.
Can you post a pic?
If it's a diatom bloom, it will likely recede naturally in a couple weeks.

diatoms most likely if still cycling. very common not to worry. once cycle is over you can get a cleanup crew in there and good to go.

Are diatoms a reddish brown? Igoogled diatoms they look green. The algea in my sand are reddish brown.

Diatoms are brown, light to dark brown.

I'd say diatoms .... normal for a young tank.
If it's really red it could be cyano bacteria.
