Get rid of the wet/dry now. Step away from the computer and go tear that thing out. No, no, come back and keep reading. Fuges are they way to go. Do you have a problem with your nitrates getting up over 10-15 in less than 2 months? I don't. How much rock do you have in your display tank? As long as you have at least 1.5# to the gallon, you should get rid of that nitrate producing wet/dry. Some people keep the wet/dry housing and replace the bioballs with LR rubble with a little algae over it and a light next to the inlet of the W/D. This would at least help till you can get a full blown fuge set up. If you do switch, only switch half the balls at first, then switch the rest in two weeks to a month to keep the bacteria levels steady, don't want to lose anything in the tank from shocking the system.
I have a 10g fuge under my 55G display. I've got some rubble rock(5#), a few small blue hermits, and the caulerpa racemosa(grape stuff). I am trying to get my hands on some chaetomorpha, but no luck so far. I am going to set-up a larger fuge in the near future that can handle more water flow and have a lrger area to be divided into filtration areas with different algaes. I also want to move my skimmer down below the tank.
