What's in your fuge?

I am starting refugium to host pods and help keep my nitrates down. What do I need in my fuge besides LR and LS? How deep of a SB?
Miracle Mud? Cheato? What kind of critters? Snails, crabs? Please advise

i have a 4 inch sb in my refugium with liverock and lots of culeprea growing. after algae started growing i added some snails.

I have a good 4.5-5 inch sand bed made from ootlic style aragonite sand.
Chaetomorpha algae and Several hunks of liverock.
I have witnessed the pod larva floating in the water column, I have a growing number of amphipods, copepods, isopids and have several chitons running around.
I have Fire worms, Terebellidae, Cirratulids and Sabella worms, melanostigma, chaetopterid worms, and spirobidae worms all over the glass rocks and even the heater.
I also have a couple of unknown hermit crabs, a red leg hermit.
A fighting conch, micro snails, Turbo snails, Stometella vara , a nassarious snail and astrina starfish.
There are even sponges growing in there

Thomas... How big is your fuge??? Is there such a thing of having too big of a fuge??

No such thing just ask Bang Guy and his 900 gallon lagoon.
Mine is just a 55 gallon refugium, I use simple gravity feed method to the fuge and down to the sump, from there it pumps back into my 90 gallon tank.

I was wondering about those cleaner clams, how much light do these guys need?

Well i went and got 3 Small necks from Shaws... put them im my main tank (NO light) and they were fine... but moved them to my fuge b/c they toppled the LR over!!!
My fuge has a small PC shoplight that i picked up at Lowes... $26 i think... 2x 26W 6700K Bulbs come with it as well... My Macro algee loves it

I have a 75gal fuge for my 180 and it is stocked much like Thomas'.
You can't have a fuge too large. The benefit of a fuge is that you never put any nutrients in it like you do your main display. To optimize its use you dont want to put anything (fish,etc) in it that you have to feed. You want the fuge to feed off of the extra nutrients that your main display doesn't use to survive. That way it doesnt add anything to the bio-load, it just takes away. Some people put a fish or 2 in there and thats ok, you just don't get as much benefit as you would without the fish.
The other benefit of a fuge is that it gives micro fauna a place to grow without being eaten by predators like in the main display. If you put predators in the fuge then you eliminate that benefit as well.

I am also thinking of adding a fuge to my 125 gallon tank.I am using a 100 - 200 g wet/dry with a hang on back overflow box that has 2 outlets I was sold from my lfs for main filtration, i also have a skimmer dunno what brand either are but the skimmer uses a magdrive350 gph pump, I return the water to the tank with a magdrive 950gph pump both pumps are in the sump of the wet/dry, I wondering in what order does the filtration work if i want to run a fuge tank? does it go from the wet /dry-fuge-skimmer? or wet/dry-skimmer-fuge?If I can use a fuge set up how do you suggest the plumbing? do I need to get another 950 gph pump to go from the fuge back to the main tank ? hope this makes sense LOL
