Whats more important surface agitation or flow through the lr??

theyre both very important but if you could only have one (why i have no clue) i would say through the LR to prevent stagnant spots. why do you ask?

well i got like six powerheads in my tank(4 pointing down and 2 pointing up) and i wanna point the other two down and just let my returns agitate the surface

i personally would leave at least one pointed toward the surface. you would be suprised what accumulates on the top of your water when its not being agitated enough.

Both are important but you should be fine redirecting your powerheads since you have an overflow it will skim off any residues that accumulate at the surface and your two returns should be plenty to aggitate the surface.

First I do not think you will have flow through your live rock. If you mean over your live rock that is more important IMO.your return line or lines can be positioned to give you surface agitation. Leaving your powerheads to circulate water over the rock. but remember to look for other areas of your tank other then the rock that may not be getting any good flow
