We have a brand new tank. It has live sand and live rock. The live rock and sand have been in the tank a few weeks now. All kinds of fun and exciting stuff are growing on the rock. Where can I find out more info on what growing there and whether or not it needs to be pulled off? We have interesting green plant looking things, green bubble stuff and quarter-sized round purplish thing.
thanks!

You pretty much leave your live rock do it's own thing. When you add your cleaner crew you will be amazed at how they clean the rockwork. Your rock will eventually look like it has hair growing on it and when the cleaner crew gets in it's just like a lawn mower. It's a blast to watch.

Well, the green bubble stuff is bubble algae and its bad. you should probably do some water changes. If you pop the bubble it will be everywhere in a short amount of time. try a foxface to get rid of it and other unwanted algae.

I agree. Leave the live rock alone and let it do its own thing. Get a clean up crew, and they will take care of all unwanted alage and everything else unwanted. Do look under the hitchhiker section though. Or just do a search. it helped me figure things out when I had a new tank.

I have read the hitchhiker section and was able to identify a couple of things. We are waiting for the tank to cycle before adding the cleaning crew it looks like we have a TON of some type of anemone on one of the rocks. The longer the rocks are there, the more little things we find popping up. This is sure nothing like our tropical tank! haha
Thanks for the ideas and links.

Beware of aptasia!!! Take care of it before it spreads. They're a bummer to get rid of when there's too many of them.

^^^^^ It becomes a huge headache. My friend had alittle bit of it and within a month it turned into a horrible infestation. I loaned him my 3 peppermints and one butterfly and they removed it all within afew weeks.
