I am partial to the AquaC EV series since they do not use a venturi to inject air into the column. I have had one on my tank now for the last couple of months and it is bar far the best skimmer I have owned. My experience with venturi skimmers has been they need lots of maintenance to skim consistently. I had to clean the venturi weekly so that it wouldn't plug off with salt and calcium buildup and then performance was effected depending on the water height in my sump due to evaporation and top offs. The AquaC was simple to setup plugged it in and only ran it in the evenings when I was home to watch it until it was broke in then reduced the airflow for the first month or so after that since it was trying to pull all of the skimate out at once. I slowly turned the air up and it is now open all of the way and all I need to do now is empty the collection cup and wipe out the water column every 2 or 3 days.
I have an AquaC Remora for my small tank and I can't stand it... it makes micro bubbles in the whole tank when I feed. So I am trying to stay away from the AquaC skimmers.
Has anyone tried the Octopus skimmers?

My Deltec AP851 is awesome. I'm running it on a 180g reef.
SCSI.....I have heard great things about the Deltecs....What other skimmers have you used...Is it worth the $1,000+ price tag in your opinion. Thanks

The remora is a whole different setup than the EV series the only thing that is the same is the water injection method. I can attest to the fact that you can setup an EV-120 overdriven with a mag 9.5 with no micro bubbles not that it is much of an issue since these skimmers are installed in a sump and not the DT. The only thing feeding does is halt the production of skimmate for a couple of hours.

I've never seen a skimmer perform the way this one does. I oversized it a bit to allow me to hedge my bioload bets somewhat. The stuff it pulls out of the water... it's just a wonderful machine.
It it worth $1200? Perhaps a euro-reef or an Octopus would perform the same way. However, I do feel that the money was well spent. No regrets. Also, Andy over at Deltec will do anything to help you out, even after the purchase.

Thanks...When it is time for skimmer replacement I may have to look into them further. Did you order it direct from their web site?
Yes. Their US web site up until recently was about the only place online where you could get them in the states. They even threw in a free "Club Deltec" T-shirt that puffs up my ego at local reef club events.
Apparently Marine Depot is carrying them now, but from the looks of it, Deltec's site may be cheaper.
