Whats the best Reef test kit? What to stay away from?

I use the API test kit for my basic ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and PH. My calcium. mag, Iodine, alkanity and phosphate are tested by salifert.
API are good for the basic tests but for other I rely on salifert's test kits, they are much more percise
Just my .02
 
ELOS are actually rated as the best, but they are expensive. I use them and they are very accurate, people say lab standard testing.

That's a good idea. Don't waste money on test kits you don't need to be accurate (i.e., if you see ammonia, that's bad).
Jay, the key is to find test kits you're comfortable with. Some kits are easier to use than others.

always used API for ALK and Calcium, and I use Elos for magnesium, nitrate use Salifert
API for starting a cycle is okay with their ammonia, nitrite kit
