I think i would like to get a tang for my 75 gallon tank. I dont intend on actually getting one for another few months, but i would like to get your ideas on which tangs would be best suited. all my other fish are small and peacefull and i plan on going full reef when i can afford the lighting. thanks for your replies.

If you are only going for 1 tang - It is likely what YOU desire most. Tangs are herbivors so they eat plants mostly - hope you don't have any macro-algae you care about :) lol
Most people get what compliments their tank in color best. As some tangs can get a little size to em, might wanna start small and have the pleasure of watching them grow.
IMHO - if you are going only 1 tang (which MOST recommend) (but having success w/more in the past - i'm trying for 2 again) - i'd pick the YELLOW or HIPPO - they have differnt colorations and different body shapes. So you be the judge :) Imho, u can pickup the strong yellow contrast thru yellow wrasps - and would tend to lean towards the Hippo.
YELLOW - A common choice is the 'yellow' tang - very vibrant yellow and really stands out. A bit more aggressive than other tangs, but again if u only haev one - it doesn't matter - they dont' tend to pick on other fish
NASAU - nice color but from what i understand get quite large fast.
BLUE HIPPO - one of my favorites. Beautiful blue w/yellow tail and nice design on his side. They are a bit more dosil, and even shy at times. Given time they come out tho. It took awhile, but I had mine even coming to eat from my fingertips.
ACHILEES - one of the more delicate tangs (altho i had one for 3-4yrs w/o any problem). Very friendly - mine would walk the length of the glass back/forth w/me. NEVER stops moving - always suspected he was on drugs. Beautiful brown/orange coloration - but as said can be delicate and doesn't give strong coloration contrasts to the tank. Personality over color here.
UNICORN - white/greyish... not as common..but available at many LFS's.

I like the regal tang (hippo tang) the best. Although the regal is an ich magnet I think a good starter tang and one of the most hardiest IMO is the yellow tang, but as mentioned above its whatever tang you want as long as you don't have any other tangs.

I was told either have one yellow tang or to have three the same size. (110gal reef). I have three now and they seem to get along. So far so good..anyone else haveing more than one yellow tang. I also have a fox tang.

Rachel, here's my line of thought on tangs...
Ultimately, it's your tank so you can do what you want, so you don't have to listen to the tang police if you don't want to. Most people will tell you that Tangs are very active swimmers and require a large tank (which they do). Some people will also go one step farther and say that no tang should be in a tank less than 75g, and most should be in atleast a 125. Each tang is different, and the different species require different conditions to be happy.
For example, tangs like the powder blue, achillies, and naso are VERY active swimmers and are happiest if they have plenty of room to swim. It's my opinion that they should be kept in atleast a 6" long tank to give them ample swimming room. Again, that's just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. Tangs like the hippo, purple, yellow and Kole aren't quite as active as some other tangs, and can usually be kept in slightly smaller tanks assuming the tank is not completely full of rock. I would have no qualms about putting any of these tangs in a 4' tank (i.e. your 75).
Here's the bottom line... it's your tank and I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm just sharing my opinion... trying to give you more info to base your decision on. In a 4' tank with average LR, I'd say a kole, yellow, purple, or hippo would be fine. I'd also say that an achillies, powder blue or naso would be find as a juvinile fish, but the will eventually outgrow a 4' tank.
HTH.

I have a Kole in my 75. I deffinatly would not want to put it in anything smaller as it would start to look traped from a lack of space to swim in. Mine is constantly grazing on the rocks and glass. It is also peaceful with the other fish.
