it has to be introduced before you even start to get any...like on live rock.
also...i heard that if you scrape off coraline algae into a bag or cup then dump them out in front of a powerhead that it will help spread it to new places on the rock to grow on. IDK tho since ive never done this.
purple up is something you could try too...although some people dont like it for some reason i cant remember lol. I use it and have had 0 problems...and increased coraline growth on my back wall.

Maintain the water quality at:
8-10 kH
420-500 Calcium
0.05 Iodide
Use a Test Kit...

Good water flow, maintain calcium level, low light
In my display tank my coraline does not grow at my top layer of rocks. It also grows in the direction my power head goes so I use a blade and scrap it off once every 2 weeks to seed the rest of the tank.
Its also nice to use KENT purple tech

The reason I don’t use purple up is it is not very cost effective. Calcium and iodide are used at different rates so one will always be off if added in one product like purple up. The reason others may say, is that you can over dose the iodide and this could have a harmful effect on some invertebrates. Though I am not very convinced of this because I can use a test kit and do, so there is no issue for me…

I stopped using KENT purple tech and my rock lost its beauitiful color even though my calcium level was still the same using regular calcium additives. Started using it again and BAM the stuff came back so I
to it
