we now have red slime algae.. what is the best way to get rid of the stuff.. it just keeps coming back!?
we siphoned it out for the past couple of days..lights are now off.. what could be the cause? we recently added another power head as our flow wasnt high enough. we just checked our phosphate level.. which is zero. we are now changing to RO water.. (we were using our tap water which we hear is a no no.. lol ) we feed our clownfish flake once per day.. and our cardinal a few mysis shrimp everyday. could we be feeding them too much?
Im not really sure where to start now to get rid of this stuff.. it just seems keep spreading.

What size tank are we talking about? The first guess would be the tap water. Where are your Nitrates? Changing the flow will help. Cut back your lights for a few days do a few 12-15% water changes over the next few weeks to get the tap water out. Cut back on your feeding and siphon out as much as you can. Or you can go to your LFS and get some red slime remover if you don't mind using a additive this will remove it quickly, but if you don't take care of the root problem it will just keep coming back until you do. Flake food is a problem in it self. It get in your rock work and decays this will feed red slime. Red slime is not a algae it's a bacteria that feeds on excessive nutrients in the tank.
