The major difference that you will notice is the shapes of the rock... some areas look more like the round rock I'm sure you have seen.
Others can be in the shape of flat flagstone... and some are like branching tree limbs.

the composition of the rock is different as well, some are dense, some porous.....
I like Marshall island the best, its lighter than fiji and has more critters, but say tonga or fiji will have more coralline (usually)

I have a mix or marshall island, fiji and gulf. The marshall island I have is dense and pretty heavy, nice shapes. The rock I have been most pleased with is for www.gulf-view.com you tell them what size and shape you want and you get it. It is absolutely covered with life. It is not that dense, atleast what I got wasn't. I suggest a mix to get the most life diversity.

I also prefer the marshal islands rock. I like the crevases for the amphiopods and worms to live in.

I just finished buying 100lbs from 3 different vendors. Gulf-view.com has the best rock without question. Don't even waste your time with the others. Premium deco $5.99 / lb shipping is reasonable but this was great rock !!!!

received 90lbs of Fiji Premium Live Rock ...best I have seen to date ...tons of stuff growing on this rock including some corals ...amazing, fast cycle time and for me it was the perfect start to a great hobby!!
whatever you end up using, go live and pile it high!!

Thanks everyone for the response i decided to go with a mix of manono, marshall, and couple of figi. Can someone point me to a place that carries good manono? Every websearch i have pulled up only gives me 1 or 2 places that sells it?
Thanks again

To get good cheap Marshall go to www.exoticfish.com I bought some before christmas and it has turned out great. But it needs to be cured. It cured really fast and the smell was not that bad

Do you realize that the www.gulf-view.com is not a secure web site...
I would not put my credit card # in there.....

Personally i love tonga branch rock, the stuff we get at my lfs is just gorgeous and covered in macroalgae. The last batch we got in had so much halimeda on it that we had to prune it and place it in several of our tanks!. I love using this stuff in the tank as a sort of infra structure because it creates lots of holes for good water circulation and places for fish to swim and hide out in!!
