What's this?

Thanks to Zap 800 I can post pics

. I took a pic of something on several of my LRs. It looks like a white root growing out of the rock. Sorry about crappy pic.

I got some other stuff to ask u about stuff growing on LR. There r these branch things that are red to a purpleish color on my LR. What r they? Is it possible that a feather duster and a polyp be growing on my LR 2? Thanks

Both are possibly Foraminiferans, harmless.

I have some of those things on my LR too. I also have these cute little fan things that are circular and stick out in the water. If I shine a flashlight on them, they disappear into the rock *flash* then they slowly open back up again (after they calm down)

Thomas, those formanifer thingees, r they that purpleish branch stuff 2? What do they do? Do they get bigger? As for the feather duster and polyp, I think I have 1 of each, cause I touched em and they hid inside their "stalk". Is it possible? Thanks

Not sure about a purple variety, they don't get much bigger in my tank, they are simple detritus and filter eaters. Harmelss.

here's a weird thing in my tank...it was on the live rock when i bought it. Looks like pink chewing gum.
Except it's not.

I have the red and white kind. Thank u! I think I have a feather duster and a polyp too. They are only about 3-5 mm high. The branch stuff looks like twigs that are 1-2 inches in length.
I'll post a pic. Thank u and could u plz identify that twig stuff? Thank u!!!!!

Yes! Only they r purple and red. What r they? r they good? Is is possible to have barnacle,coraline,polyp,and a feather duster hithhike on LR? Thank u!

BTW, I have a ton of that red stuff. That stuff that's also white, farinten or something.

Believe it or not they are snails. Vermetid Snails, just do a little search on them, filter feeders, but be careful never to stab yourself with them. They throw out a net of mucus and trap things to eat.

Can't tell from the pic, but it could be a sponge, do you see any like vent holes in it.

U r really helpful. Snails huh. That's weird. I saw them move and thought that it was the current that kept them moving. Do they every send out a line of web or something? I never have seen them do that but I was just wondering. So, Today I think I saw a feather duster, barnacle, polyp, and corraline in my tank. It this possible in a tank as young as mine? Thanks thomas.

Why don't u want to stab urself with it? Also when do they send out a line of mucuc? I never have seen that before. What happens if a fish or ur hand:nervous: gets caught in that web stuff? Thanks again

your very welcome daredevil. im glad i could help you out with the picture. i use that program alot its very useful and simple to use. it has alot of stuff you can do with a picture for a free program

Mine don't ever send out that mucus stuff. When do they, is there a particular time of the day or something? What happens f a fish or ur hand gets caught in that stuff? :nervous:
