What's this????

This chocolate chip has been in my tank for several months and I've never seen him do this! Is this something to worry about? I didn't see the beginning but these two pictures where about 15 minutes apart. All others in the tanks seem to be doing ok.

Figures, in the few minutes it took to post that, he's gone back to usual. Anyone know what happened. (Was he "relieving himself?")

Thanks for the responses (and praise Beth). I don't specifically feed him, but I did notice that he spent alot of time with 2 "arms" out of the water at the top of the tank before he did this. Should I be feeding him directly or will he get enough from leftovers from when I feed the fish?

You should ensure that at least once or twice a week it is directly given food. It is easy when they come to the surface like that. Take shrimp pellets, krill, shrimp, silversides...just about anything that stays together (eg NOT brine or something) and put it on the the bottom of the arms there.

Thanks ophiura, I happen to have some krill that I bought but the others won't eat it, I'll try it with him. Also have shrimp pellets, but they sink and get eaten before he would ever have a chance to get down there. One more question. Should these be broken up some and/or moistened before giving to him, or will he just take care of what he needs to do to eat it?

Shimp pellets are actually very good choices if he can get it (eg when he's at the top and his arms are back). Krill is also good. Put it on a bamboo skewer (if freeze dried, yes, moisten it), and touch it to the tips of his arm. He should be able to hold on to it and remove the skewer.

Man I want a star fish. They are so cool. Ophiura - What is a good starfish for a reef set up? Also I have a 29 gallon so I would need to know if one would be ok in my size tank of course.
