I'm 15 days into a cycle, using a damsel, and my ammonia went up , then my nitrite, but now everything is reading zero. surely the cycle last longer than that. I put in the damsel, ls, and a base rock
any ideas????

for anyone, please dont cycle with fish.... it is cruel......
but seeing how you already have, it owuld appear that it is done. are all your other levels stable? wait a hwile before adding another fish.

I highly doubt that one damsel in a 30 gallon will cycle your tank in 15 days. Did you use anything else to create a bacteria spike?

I just got in a new light system(coralife 30" pc) and the aqua c remora but the lights and remora wont fit on my tank. it has the eclipse hood on it, with the pump with charcoal, floss filter with the bio wheel. My question is, do i need the bio wheel now that i have the skimmer???
and to the other post, it was only a 30 gal, and one damsel and ls is all i used to cycle my tank.please help???

bio -wheel sjust provide a ton of surface area for bacteria to grow. and i mean a ton. i have one of those too. the 29 gallon one. the biowheel it claims, has something rediculus like 9 square miles or surface area. obviously on a microscopic level. But hot the heck are you goign to fit a skimmer and lights on that? unless the lights are a retrofit, which i would imagine that they are not, i would assume taht you are getting rid of the entire hood/top/stock filter?

a biowheel is not needed no.... and if you are taking off the entire hood, then the bio wheel would come off too weather you like it or not. lol. but if you do decide to get a HOB mechanical filter, a biowheel would be good. they are basicaly jsut a smaller version of a wet-dry.
