What's your favorite book?

I'm not sure if the people around here can put down their Sports Illustrated, Burgess & Axelrod or Republicans R Us magazines long enough to read a book here and there, but if you do, got any recommendations? I generally read mysteries and legal fiction but I'm pretty tired of the same old books. I've read pretty much everything by Grisham and a few from Scott Turow. I also like horror books... both fiction and nonfiction books about serial killers. I used to enjoy Anne Rice books. Right now I have gone for a movie classic and am reading Jaws (how can it be bad). What types of books do you enjoy?

How about rahter than a favorite book I list some of my favorite authors. ---- Francis book are usually pretty entertaining. They are mystery books based in someway about English steeplechasing. There is another author who writes some amusing mysteries. Can't remember her name but her books are titled, "faxe me a bagel", "Don't cry for me hot pastrami" and a couple of others. Some Mark Twain books are completley entertaining, others of his are a coplete bummer so you have to watch out. Anne McCaffery writes some pretty good Sci-fi novels. One series of books that I just found are "the Dragon and the George" At least that is the first book, unfortunately they are out of print so it is kind of hard to read them in series, which I like to do.
So I seem to have rambled on here........

"Lords of Discipline" by Pat Conroy, it's what made me want to move to Charleston S. Carolina (where I spent 6 years).....Now where the hell is my Republicans R Us magazine.
There is a great article about how "your girl" is going to skyrocket our taxes to pay for her healthcare plan.

Alright gentlemen, there can only be one Newt Gingrich. So please, no more recommendations for Mein Kampf. I'm talking about reading for leisure, not politics.

The only series ive been reading (and rereading) recently is Robert Jordan's The Eye of the World. It is a 12 book series that dates back to either early 90's or late 80's, and the author just died (sept 22nd i believe) before finishing the final book. luckily he had written the ending and his wife is going to tie up other loose ends, or i'd have wasted a LOT of time.

Since I have all these rugrats, it's been a while since I've picked up a book, but before, I couldn't get enough Dean Koontz. All time favorite author. I had hit a point where I read everything he published under that name and was going for his former name titles... Then the kids came.
But he's a great author! And any one of his books are awesome.

I read a lot of Dean Koontz but always felt disappointed in the endings. What usually began as a thrilling, horror mystery ended up in an outlandish, sci-fi type of ending. He is a great writer, though.

Hunter S. Thompson is a very different writer. I liked Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Hated the movie, though.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, an outstanding series.
Also anything by Roddy Doyle (The Commitments, Paddy Clark HA HA HA, Barry Town Trilogy).
Ham On Rye by Bukowski...a must read.
Confederacy of Dunces by Toole...another must read!
