"What's your tank worth?" !!!!!!

This is a very good and logical question! What exactly do you think your system is worth. Sit down and break down everything you paid for your stuff, equipment, fish, live rock and corals.
Got a number in your head? Now lets go this route. Lets say you have to leave the hobby and there appears there will be no coming back in the future! You need to sell everything. So let the price banging begin right!
Its sad to say that when we spend very good money on top notch equipment, we then list it for sale at a half off new value. What happens people wait and low ball you untill you are forced to sell. I feel like all the selling forums on each reef site has turned into a reverse type of

[hr]
, but it feels that way anymore with some of the PM's and emails one would get from low ballers.
Now mind you there are quite a few people out there that respect and know a deal when they see one. They respond and act with out haste, and don't play cat and mouse! Others jump at the thread and state clearly yes yes yes, then they attempt to bang you down on price, and then sometimes never get back to you! I have no time as I am sure others will feel the same way, NO TIME for people like this. I mean what is the deal with some people like this? Don't they know the time it takes to reply to every PM, email and such? Its insane to know that last year I was selling skimmer that was a month old. It cost $200 new and I was selling it for $125. I must have gotten 20 pm's and emails that day and everyone wanted it. I took the time to reply to them, figure shipping prices and such. One of two things then happen, they never respond, or they "Low Ball" you again, and do everything they can to get you down!
Do others agree? I mean NO disrespect for the boards, but I will be honest that I feel as though the selling forums have become a low ball

[hr]
. Anyone else feel this way.
I know we like to always score a deal, but some people will reply to you ask all kinds of info, pass on the deal or try to low ball you right there. After a few weeks go by they wait and watch if you bump the thread, they dive on it and again lower. I mean, Its absolutely crazy. I know what I paid for my equipment as you do. So let me ask you this
"What is your tank worth?"
"Would you give it away!"

I totally agree I was selling Nice Fiji LR $3.75 a pound SHIPPED. Someone here sent me an email saying they wanted it...... later said they couldnt buy it because of money issues and the very next day I find that they are trying to buy from somebody else then when that mustve fell thru they emailed me back and said Ok Ill buy it for $2 SHIPPED by Freight (that shipping alone would cost me 2 dollars a pound if not more), but only if it includes that neon green mushroom rock (30 Mushrooms 10 pound rock... Which sold fort 300 locally)....... and they had the nerve to act like she was doing me a favor.
I laughed for about 10 minutes and sent an email back that said "LOL"
Needless to say all of my LR goes on the big

site now .... to many deals that fall through on ALL forums. Not just here. I would actually say this is by far the best forum around.

theres a lesson in this... next time you go to start yourself a tank, come to swf.com and let the low balls begin. Never hurts to try right? Id rather try and get flamed 50 times and end up with one really good deal than sit there with a 6000 dollar system like yourself and have nothing to do with it. Just my 2cents. I wont even pretend that I dont bargain on this site. Why not?

Let me also say that when i started my bowfront i spent about 3 grand and sold it for about 1250. I know your pain. Ive also bought alot on this site for very low prices so it is what it is.

all i gotta say is as much money we spend on our fishies in the end just to sit back and watch the tank is priceless

this could actually be a really fun thread. People should post the pics of their tank and then the price they would expect to get. Then other peeople should post what they would offer. (pretend you actually would have to spend the money.) As long as nobody gets offensive this could be really cool.

I have already thought of what would happen if I had to exit. I have 4 reef tanks running. The largest is a 92 Corner that I probably have $3,500 in hardware and $2,500 in coral and another 4-6K in the other tanks. None of this takes into account what has died, broke or been upgrated. If I had to exit the hobby I would have a weekend sale at my house. Advertise at the LFS and online. Proabaly would get about 5K. Mc

Maybe it's just me and my hobbies, but I don't ever figure I'll be able to sell anything and get near what I paid for it. If I have to sell, I'll be more stressed trying to find decent folks to take my fish.

Guys,
I have been sitting back and watching and reading quite a few of your replies. This is exactly what I wanted!
I am selling for a good buddy right now that is going thru a type of "hardship" He has gotten out of this hobby over a year ago after having close to $30-40,000 tied into his complete 2 floor system. Roughly it was about 5oo gallons of total volume. All top notch equipment. His lighting systems were halide prizm pendants. They ranged in wattages from 400 down to 175's over the tank, frag tank and sump. Any rate, every week they would take each light down, and wipe it down completely inside and out. These things look brand new and work just fine to this day. Most of them have brand new bulbs. He spent over $1500 for the three pendants I am selling for him and only asking for 1/3 his return not half! These lights are only 2 years old, but spent 1 year in his attic packed away, so there is only 1 year of use actually on them.
So "Team2jndd" This is your quote
"theres a lesson in this... next time you go to start yourself a tank, come to swf.com and let the low balls begin. Never hurts to try right? So pretty much you are saying plain and simple you only use SWF.com to low ball sellers. You would rather be "flammed" 50 times and know you scored a good deal? Tell ya what I wouldn't want to be flammed once and let allone 50 times, but that shows why you come here in the first place. Only to low ball sellers and then frequent another site? Is this the case? Clarify......... Also it would be smart to NOT compare how you ball people down vs what I have tied into my system. Its apples to oranges! I have worked hard and long to aquire some of the stuff I have. Why didn't I buy it used, well let me see here. Hmm  I needed a really nice light fixture, and no one was selling the one I wanted at the time! SO..... I had to buy one? Make any sense!!!! I wasn't going to settle for a cheaper light just becasue 20 people had them for sale and I could low ball them down! NO I wanted a nicer well crafted light that was reputable. SO before you sit there and even consider slamming what my costs have been, don't.
Thanks for the comments the rest of you. I appreciate them, however when someone misses my point completely I have to laugh it off and forget about it......
Spank.

I could not agree more. The stuff doesn't have the value; the health of the stock and the enjoyment of it has the value.
I honestly think low price to a great home, if I had to.

Check my posts... Besides for the past few months im never in the classifieds forum. Ive been here for a few years learning and helping other people. Where do you come off telling me thats all i do. I dont give a damn what light you want to buy thats your preference. Who are you lol? Are you even mentally stable going off on a tangent like that over a harmless comment? I wasnt trying to put anybody down I was pointing out that when you buy from the lfs you will pay 3-4x what your equipment is worth. Everybody knows it. Thats why I buy from this site and
