i bought my first real coral the other day...i am embarrased i cannot tell you what but it cost me $25. it is like frogspawn but tentacles are thinner. anyway, it been almost 48 hours and no action. it looks like a purple rock.
this is a newly cycled tank...all parameters good, temp is 85 (a little high) and all livestock is healthy. i also put in a hammer coral which does well. i acclimated via drip over 45 mins.
i heard corals can take a while to come out of the closet but....how long must i wait before i write this off as a loss?

I had to wait for 10 days for a candy cane frag to open once. I wouldn't be too concerned as of yet. If it is truely dead, usually a jelly substance comes out, for LPS corals at least. If it smells like salt water, no worries. Give it a few more days.

A Green Star Polyp maybe? When my GSP is closed up it looks like a purple rock. If it still smells like saltwater it is fine I waited 3 days for mine to open for the first time.

its a pink star polyp, according to my supplier.
should i take it out to smell it, or just wait?
we are on day 3 with no life...but it sounds like i just need to chill, like my water!
