How long do I wait for my feather duster to emerge before I consider him no longer alive? Its been over 2 weeks now.

Well since no-one has the faintest guess I'll answer my own question. I haven't seen the feathers on my feather duster for a long time -weeks. But I always noticed it was still attached to some CC I used to have. It wasn't mushy either. Last night I was very close to throwing it out, but noticed just the very tips of it coming out - first time in a month I bet. I think its still alive.
I've asked about this in an earlier thread - weeks ago, and no one answered that one either. Are you telling me nobody has had this happen, or nobody knows anything about sick feather dusters>????????

the best way to tell (although i would not do this offten) would be to gently push you r finger on the tube twards the bottom or unopen end. if the worm inside is alive he WILL move...mostly because he will be scared (hence the reasion why you shouldnt do this often) if he is alive he can regrow his crown.
p.s. it does happen everyonce in a while.

feather dusters can lose their heads and can take several weeks to grow a new one. I would leave it in...if it does die, your clean up crew will probably get rid of it before it causes problems in the tank.

FD alive? - I posted that just a few days ago - I think he's ok. The feathers are growing back. I almost did get him out of there.
Do you guys feed yours directly? Like an anemone? Or are they exclusively "catch whatever is the water"?

Have you been checking on it at night mine only seem to come at night. When I first get them then they seem happy and come out at the times of the day. If was dead the tube would have decompose over night.
Sarah :)
