Im gonna be mixing my first batch of saltwater this weekend.
I didnt want to add a little...then keep adding...then keep adding bla bla bla.
Per gallon of water...how much salt do you typically pour in on your first guess?

+1 on the half cup a gallon... It varies depending on the temp of the water, trace elements in the water... Check with the manufacturer of the brand of salt using, most will have a guide somewhere that will alyout projected SG at specific temp with specific salt. Coralife is just under 1/2 cup per G.

Seems to me 1/2 cup per gallon to get Sg to 1.022 but I think it says on the bagspails.
YUP...which is why I throw in extra...and then of course check it when it's mixed and either add some more ro/di...or a little more salt

3 cups per 5g (give or take 1/4 cup depending on how heaping the 5g is) usually gets me where I want it.

1/2 cup per gal. here, to make approx. 27 gallons, + 1 extra small scoop. Comes out the same every time. In fact, it has been so consistent that I quit testing, except for an occassional random test, a long time ago.

I think the question that should have been asked is what salinity are your trying to achieve

I have a half cup measuring cup. I mound it and use one per two gallons to achieve 1.026. I let it mix for awhile then test and adjust. I then let it continue mixing for 48 hrs or so.

+1
I use appx. 1 cup per 2 gallons and that puts me right at 35ppt.
I also let mine mix with a powerhead and heater for about 2 days before I use it. I test peroidically to make any adjustments needed. But If I ever add anymore salt then it will mix for another day or 2 before I use it. Just my .02

Something's not right. I do the same thing, except 1/2 cup per "gallon", and you are 1/2 cup per "2 gallons". Even if we use different brands of salt, we should not be off by this much
And yes, I am reading 1.026.
