Depends on individual tank. Time to add clean up crew. This will help. Lots of patience and suck them up with water changes.

Don't do water changes for abotu a montha nd leave your lights off and after a month to 6 weeks the tank should be ready for a water change, light increase and a few livestock. The longer you let the tank cycle and the more patient you are the more you will reap the rewards of a fully mature tank and less undesirable algae and problems down the road.

You should have learned your patience by now since you've got a 150g. Let the tank do it's thing, if it's completely cycled, you should check your PH levels. I had some diatoms after the tank was completely cycled and I was told to check my PH, it sure was low, some buffer, poof, diatom was gone.....

as soon as all the available silicates are consumed the diatoms will go away there is no set timne frame it depends on how much silicates are available for diatomic growth.

its doing ok thanks for asking. I need to get some new lights. I wasnt planning on a new tank but it was too good of a deal to turn down. $250
for 90 gal ocanic RR tank, stand, lights, 100lbs of dead rock sump(wet dry) 2 ---. heaters, and por. skimmer. I am going to make it an agressive tank. I added a snowflake eel last week and I havent seen him since. Might be dead
I will do a water change after christmas an add something new. Wish me luck

Good Luck and that was a hellofa deal IMO. Hope your SFE is okay. In the future dont hesitate to post water chemistry and or questions prior to adding any live stock there maybe ideas or helpful advise you havent heard yet, that might eliminate making a decision to add something at the wrong time.

Any luck locating the Eel? Is your cover secure? They are great escape artists. Check the floor around the tank
