probably is evaporating that much, esp if you have hot air heat, it is much dryer than baseboard

ARE THERE ANY SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM BESIDES ADDING WATER EVERY 2 DAYS. I HAVE A RIO 2500 FOR MY SKIMMER. I HATE WAKING UP IN THE MORNING AND IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS RUNNING DRY. I WORRY ABOUT OUT OF TOWN TRAVELING. ANY IDEAS?

other tahn an auto top off syste, maybe a humidifier in the room(MAY), by helping to keep the air less dry it may slow down the evap process
(not sure, but logic says maybe could)

Stop yelling!! ok, I have to add water every 4 days. Your sump is a little small for a tank that size so you need to add water more often. you can construct an automatic water adding system with a kent float valve. Many people use it.
coling ther tank or sealing it might help. other than that. . . . for a random gues oyu are using hetal halides?

I HAV THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 150 IN MY SUMP I HAV A RIO 1700 AND A 2200 AND MY PROTIEN SKIMMER AND IT SEEMS THAT THE WATER JUST DISAPPEARS I HATE THIS BUT I,AM GETTING USE TO IT :p

Tsunami makes a autosensing top-off system for less than $50, but an even better approach would be to drip kalk at a rate close to your evaporation (I lose about 1/4 gal a day on my 65 with the 30gal sump/refugium) and a dosing pump can be had for $59.

Got it from <a href="http://www.reef-aquarium.com/" target="_blank">www.reef-aquarium.com</a>
They sell refurbished peristaltic dosing pumps (the ones they use in hospitals). I clipped the wire to the audio alarm since I'd rather not know I've run out of kalk at 3:00 amm but that was my only modification, and it took 10 minutes to setup.
If you want it on a timer or a float valve, you would have to be creative in re-wiring the switch and built in batttery, but it works great as is if you dose 24/7.
