where do you all get your water. do you buy it from the fish store or do you get it from walmart and mix it your self. is it cheaper to get the water and salt seperate. is the walmart water safe, like the water that you fill the jugs yourself. i am currently using well water but many people here and at the lfs have told me to stop and i was just wondering what my options were
thank you

Almost all of that would be better than tap water. I've used the Walmart water plenty of times. Soon I hope to get my own RO/DI system, the Typhoon III. I have 4 five gallon bottles that I use to refill at the Walmart water station.

I have an RO/DI system and I mix all of my water. Even when I didn’t have it, I’d buy purified water and mix my own…always something I’d rather do myself.
I probably wouldn’t use well water unless I had it tested. You could buy water or you could invest in a RO/DI unit, which might have a high initial cost but will pay for it’s self in a year or so.

about how much are ro units. also my fish guy said that he bought an atachment that purifies the sink water, would that take care of the bad things in the well water. he uses it for his tap water

Sink attachments are almost nothing but carbon filters, does some, but doesn't really remove what we need removed.

I was using grocery store RO water for about 18 months - it cost 30 cents a gallon. I just got a 5-stage RO/DI for about $170 shipped, which should pay for itself in less than a year. Not to mention the convenience....

i buy mine from the lfs, 50 cents a gallon. im probably gonna buy a ro/di unit soon though cus im setting up a 120 and i dont want to make10 trips to the lfs for water when i fill the thing. i saw one recently on the auction site for about 100 bucks. it was in a water store, not an aquarium store.

Best bet is from the lfs, becareful with some "bottled waters" check them for phosphates before putting them in your tank :happyfish

cant beat it.
For 100 gallons it cost you 100 dollars. should we add tax?
$50 can purchase me a 200 gallon bucket of sea salt, even less than $50
200 gallons of water at Wally world is 25 cents per gallon(around here). That would be $50 bucks.
In this case I can make 200 gallons for the same $100 dollars that you spent.
Sorry part of the smart goober came out of me. So it can be beat and in the long run it can save you money making your own.

bought house, moved in, looked at funny faucet next to regular faucets, looked under sink and what do you know, Hydrotech RO unit already installed. I use to buy distilled grocery water.

The question is how is your house/apt/condo plumbed? I thought about this the other day. If my apt complex is plumbed with copper fittings or metal fittings and maybe there is some deca or maybe not....the water will be contamonated. I would not want to get an RO/DI unit till I was 100% sure how the house is plumbed!
