Where is everybody?

Boy, it's been freakishly quiet in here.....how is everyone?? Any new developments in our seahorse tanks??
I'll go: my female H. erectus was moved into the DT in the beginning of the month. She'd lost many of her cirri in her QT time (I'm thinking it was flow related), but otherwise she's fine. Still only eating live; she halfheartedly pics at frozen if she doesn't have a choice. But she's acclimated well to the new tank, and is very active and inquisitive!

I know! Meowzer no longer has horses and TeresaQ (has had some life issues) hasn't been around! I think you and I are all that's left in the seahorse world.(except Cranberry who stays out of the seahorse forum for some reason) but I noticed she posted in a seahorse thread recently.
Anyway, I am glad your "impulse" buy is working out and your little girl is doing well. Did you get any others?
As for me, (shhh) I was keeping it quiet for a couple of weeks to see how it works out, but I have 30 babies!

They are 3 days old. 30 was all he had, and I haven't lost any yet, but figure that will probably change. Here's some pics I took yesterday! (Don't tell anyone!

yeah, I've been busy with other things too, but I pop in regularly to see what's going on...seems like this part of the forum has dwindled the most, but I get the feeling that a lot of people are tightening their belts these days, fish enthusiasts included. I'll post pictures of my girl ASAIC; she's doing fine if you don't count the stubborn live-food-only streak. Ah well - she gets enriched brine and live ghost shrimp, so I don't think she's hurting.
The babies are adorable!! Good luck with these guys....these are southern erectus, yes?

Yes, and although they can hitch, they seem to spend most of thier time near the surface. Do you know if this is normal?

My experience is with H. reidi fry, not H. erectus. But I would be a little concerned...you don't want them to accidentally snick any air at this stage I don't think, or they won't be able to swim down normally. Conversely, you don't want to completely deprive them of access to the surface, because when they're bigger they do need to get up there to help develop their swim bladders. I remember an article that Pete Giwojna wrote about this condition; tank raised seahorses that never got any access to the surface have underdeveloped swim bladders and were called "sliders" from the way they always slithered along the bottom of the tank. These guys were more prone to infection because of the constant contact with the sand bed.
My guess is that if you have some way of moving a gentle current across the top of the tank (maybe a fan rippling the surface?) it would prevent them from getting all the way up until they were strong enough to do so. But that's just pure midnight guesswork here.

Well, today I would say about 15 that seem to be doing well. 5 I don't think will make it! I added a larger air stone to up the circulation. That seems to have helped! *fingers crossed*

They look good shrimpy. Hey Nova, I'm around. My horses are fine, I did end up loosing the one male. His tale just never got better, even with all the meds. He was a fighter though and lasted almost two months. I should have put him down but couldnt bring myself to do it.

Thanks! They are only 8 days, so I have a long way to go! Most are swimming and eating well. Hopefully, that's a good thing!

Thanks Shrimpy, things are going good. Getting better everyday. Not only did we loose my mom in April, my close cousin lost her mom in June. Things will get better though.

It's tough....I know, I really do. Been there with...well, too many family members recently to be honest. It's a day by day sort of recovery, and we're all here to listen if you need to vent.

I'm still around Sold off most of the Erectus I have, I'm down to a dozen or so. The older pairs are still breeding, but I'm not raising the fry at this point. Just no time.... and quite frankly, too hard to sell them off locally or within driving distance.
I still have 7 tanks running (reefs, fw, seahorse...) and until I dwindle that down I'm not going to raise any more fry. Still toying with the idea of setting up a dwarf tank again. After having them for over 4 years, and then not having them for the past year... I kind of miss the 'lil buggers. This time will be different though..... a 20 long kick-arse dwarf tank

I no longer have dwarves, but I have pipes. Since I moved out of state and got back my old seahorse buddy isn't around so I haven't been able to find a good source.
