That's very cool. Our 9 year old is the same way. He's offered to set up a 20 gal sw for his cousin s 9th birthday. (wonder who's going to pay for that) If you go with live rock for cycling get a good size magnifying glass. You'll both be amazed at the things you can find on that rock! I think all our friends thought we had really lost it when we gave up TV to watch rocks while the tank cycled. At one point in the beginning we truly only had "pet rocks"

That's so cool, I'll have to get a magnifying glass when we get going. Do you put the live rock in at the beginning when you fill the tank for the first time, or do you wait for it to cycle first?

You put it in right at the beginning and there is always some die-off in bacteria etc. that helps your cycle.
