which cucumber

ive heard that sea cucumbers are good for cleaning the sand... but which one would you guys reccomend i get to clean??? i dont want any of the microfauna to be eaten... just algea.
this is a pic of my sand bed

I'd be wary of cucumbers... if they die or become injured they can release a toxin into your tank that can kill your fish.

I think it's called a tiger cuke. Just dont do the bright colors, the blacks and browns are okay and wont nuke your tank. I have one and my sand bed is always clean. They do a good job but feel really funny mine is about 6" long.

I have a brown/black cucumber. They can be fun too watch and benefitial as far as i can tell. Every now and than i catch him crawing up the side of the tank and i have to make sure he doesnt make a mad dash for the carpet. They like to wedge themselves into crevices in the rock. I dont know how much alage he actually takes care of but he seems happy. I dont think you can go wrong with a cucumber but do check into the toxin thing. GOod luck

My LFS gets yellow and pink cucumbers that look very cool.
The only reason i have not purchased one yet is because i dont think they are worth the price they are selling them for, $19. I would think that they wouldnt sell any cucumbers that contained toxins and potentially crash the entire tank....but than again...

I got a black sand sifting cucumber, and boy has he grown!, i got him last month and has has grown at LEAST 3 inches, by far the best addition to a tank, If your gonna get one get one with the dullest colors, and make sure it is a "sand sifting" the brighter they are, the more toxic they are.and with your sand bed (nothing personal) that cucumber will probably grow 5 in after its done with it!

The Atlantic Black Cucumbers and the Tiger Tails are great. I suggest avoiding the pink & Black and the Yellow ones.
