Im upgrading to a 48" 90 gal next week and need new powerheads. Im thinking of going with hydor koralia's.. but which number and how many would you suggest? I want good flow but not something that blasts down everything in its path.. so I was thinking 2 - #3's or #2's. What would you suggest?

i have two #3's on my 125DT 72" long tank. so they would be great for your tank. im thinking of upgrading to two #4's.........

2 #3's and a 2....LOL This is like someone who has never had ice cream asking a crowd which is best.
Everyone will chime in differently. But...I have 3 , 4's on my 135(6 foot long) AND a modded maxijet. The flow is very nice and nothing is really getting blasted. However, on a 4 foot tank, I'd do 2 3's , one on each end pointing somewhat towards each other, and the 2 in the center up top, pointing toward the glass. This, IMO would create a nice turbulent and chaotic flow in the tank.

LOL.. yea i know.. i'll get 15 different answers.
im leaning toward 2 #3's. i think 4's will be too much.. the tank is only 48". i dont want to blast everything around the tank.

i have a 90g with 2 #4 and 1 #2.. the few sps corals that i have are loven it...i have the #4's up high pointing at eachother causing a wave effect and i have the #2 blowing the back of the tank so i have no dead spots..

can you compare the flow, pattern and strength, between the modded maxi and the 4s? And if you don't mind indicating where they are placed in yours.

2 number 3s I have a 3 and a two on my 55 and it is barely enough, I plan on keeping both of those and adding another #3 to my new 90 dp. Hope that helps

. Come on its not anywhere near the size of a softball. I have a 4 and 3 in my 46 and its blows no sand anywhere.

Maxijet is a DIY modded 1200. With two props. It has what seeams to be more flow than the K.4 does. I cant say how much but it defenitly moves a lot of water. You can see them here.

Two number 4's. If you think it's too much just aim one at the front glass and reduce the algae growth and daily maintenance.

+1 for 2 number fours at least. I have 2 fours in my 72 and its just right. It may be easier to do more smaller ones if you want to hide them.
