gotta learn tabs and chords. then barre chords. then you need to learn the pentatonic scale from one end of the neck to the other (5 different positions), then maybe learn the twelve bar blues and the blues scales which is just the pentatonic scale with 2 extra notes. I know the major scale, but have yet to find a use for it....the pentatonic scale is the daddy of all rock and blues scales. when you have it down, learn the rule of relative major and minors.
after that, pay $60 to download Guitar-Pro onto your computer. it is tabs, but played out in audio so you can play along with it. that makes learning complex songs like Hendrix and SRV 100 times easier.
once you've got all that, you've got. because coming up with your own songs is 90% stealing someone else's songs in such a way that you won't get sued.

Isn't the pentatonic blues scale just one extra note, instead of two? :thinking:
Anywho, I had played the piano for years, and couldn't afford a decent piano when I first moved out on my own. So I picked up the guitar and locked myself in a room for a weekend until I had most of my chords down. I feel fortunate that I play by ear. It does drive you crazy when someone plays an instrument out of tune though. Id suggest going and getting one of those $3 poster from wallyworld that have all the chords on it. Well most of the chords on it. Practice, practice. But give your fingers and wrists time to heal. Cramps happen, and so does raw fingers. Fingerease make a good fret and string grease that helps. Get a good tuner, until you learn the notes by ear. Even so its almost impossible to set up intonation by ear. Korg makes a great chromatic tuner. Search the web site youtube for a guy named toddsquad. He has some nice short films for different techniques. OK, ok I'll shut up.

yes, one extra note. the pentatonic is 5 notes, but I consider 1 position to be the two different octaves on all 6 strings. that's why I said 2 different notes, because if you play the pentatonic scale from the 6th string to the 1st string (which is 2 different octaves), there are 2 'blues notes' (one per octave). of course, they're the same note.

I just got a Bach 300 today. It is used and we are renting/buying it for 29 month for 4 years. which comes out to about 1,500. Is there anything that I should know about this trumpet.
Did I get it for a decent price. Thanks everyone for the replies.
my instructor just gave me the pentatonic scale to practice.;
