Which is better?

Look into a clip on Viper or Coralife 150watt metal halide, they're not that expensive and you can build yourself a little net top to stop jumpers.
Or if you're concerned about heat, look into a PAR38 bulb or dual PAR 38 LED setup.

A 250 watt over a 37G is a lot, you might have heat issues. I'd try to find a 150 watt.

They have a 150 watt too. If I did get this I would have no idea what kind of ballast to get, and then I would get the wrong one- and then it would be a big mess.

Google: Coralife Aqualight 150 watt HQI - this is the clip on unit I'm referring to, it available all over the internet, but I can't post competitor links here.
You can also look for a similar unit made by Viper (JBJ). They've been discontinued, but you might be able to find a used unit cheap from a local reefer.

I don't think that two 24 watt T5's would be enough over a 37.

Ok, I will get the 150 watt metal halide, can you suggest a ballast? Do you have to have those things to work the fixture?

Really? For the product it says this... HQI, Pulse Start or electronic ballast is required for this bulb. S i'm not sure, but I don't think it comes with one?

some of the less expensive MH come with ballasts,, the one im looking at is a 18" 178W Metal Halide Pendant Extendable Series made by Odyssea
Just look up Odyssea Metal Halides... they come with ballast and are relatively inexpensive... also look the craigs list in your area and see if anyone is getting out of the hobby for cheaper stuff...

Oh and yes the top need to be open,, but you can make a screen for the top for that...

That is a good price and. 18" Inch. Wait it reaches it said up to 24 inches.

well that one would fit my cube... it was just for reference... but your have to get one that is the right length for your tank

none yet... Im in the process of moving across country and will re-set it up then..with the MH so I can have the LPS and SPS that I want
