Damn that sound sweet. SE 250's is what I would use, 4 of them.

That's what I was thinking, but considering doing 5 SE MH's

here's what you do....400 watt Radiums ran on the HQI ballast with the luminacr refectors on the ends, then you run 2x250 watt DE 14K's in the middle.......
that's it.

Why would color or output be effected if the bulb is double ended or single ended?

Every bulb (SE or DE) will have different characteristics (some more than others) depending on their design and method of manufacture. Even 3 different 250W SE bulbs, all rated at 10K, will have a different output. Do a search for "metal halide bulb comparison" and you'll what I mean in color alone. And then theres the PAR, the actual measure of light output. This will be different from bulb to bulb as well.
Acrylic, each 400W bulb will use about 55KWH more per month than a 250W.

Totally old post!!!!!!! 400W are way overkill.....and the best reflectors on the market are the Lumenarcs!!!!!!!!!
