Which sump/fuge design?

I am desigining my own sump/fuge and would like some input. I have three designs i am working with currently. All based on a 20H tank I already have.
the first one would give me a place to put a bag of carbon and the intake section would contain either live rock rubble or bio-balls,
The second design would provide the largest area for the skimmer with a little more room for the fuge, but no bio-balls or carbon shelf.
The last one would provide raw tank water draining to the fuge.
One other option I have kicked around is making the skimmer external, that would free a lot of space in the tank but I do not know if I can spare the space.
As for pumps I was thinking the Mag-drive 9.5 w/700GPH - 5' for the return, and a mag-drive 5 with 500GPH - 1' for the skimmer.
Suggestions? Comments?

Well those pictures came out pretty bad. Wonder why.
Still, you can kinda see where I'm going here right? So any comments or ideas? And what would be the best way to attach the plexi panels in the glass tank?

Most folks on this site will tell you to not use the bio balls. Make the fuge as big as you can. "T" the drain line where the fuge feed drops out of the line. On the fuge feed, put a valve to regulate a lower flow for the fuge. NOt sure about the pump--but goal flow is 20 to 30 times the volume of your main tank. This does not all have to come from the sump but can be made up in power heads and/or closed loops. You can fasten acrylic to glass with 100% clear silicon. Duct tape in place while one side dries if you need to. Cure silicon for 24 hours befor use. If that is a third baffle in your design, it is not needed. Water should only drop around an inch into the pump return chamber(bubble control).
Search for "plumbing 101". You will find all kinds of info from Squid and others on sizing fuge/sump and skimmer placement etc. WARNING: Get a cup of coffee, save it to your favorites and get comfy. Cause it is LARGE reading.
Good luck!

In the last set of pics, I like the second one the best. Put a T connector so you have some water going directly to the fuge and some to the skimmer and you will be set.
