They are awesome fish....
The only thing you need to watch out for in the beginning is ick, as with any tang. QT him if at all possible. Need to see some pics once you get him....

Oh I have 3 QT tanks already setup and cycled because of the ick outbreak I had from not QT'ing my Blue Hippo. Now I know better and he will be going in one of them.

I didn't know they did that on that forum. I have not been on there in awhile, but I would be interested in the link, if they do group orders from SWF.com.
This is bordering the limits allowed here, but just to be safe, PM me a link to a page where they are discussing that. I see all of the regular topics, but nothing about this.

They have a group order of about every place on there. Individuals get them up and people jump on board. I personally got the order up for SWF and I am sure I'm allowed to say that since I brought them quite a nice chunk of business. I will just say the box or boxes I am getting Wednesday will be huge and have tons of livestock in them.

Got the pm...

Now I just have to remember my info...it's been so long since I was on there
I'll figure it out and check it out, but if you do this again with SWF, let me know. Thanks.

Oh I'm sure we will. Where are you located? I've gotten some friends into the hobby so somebody is always needing something. You know how it is...This order of livestock is pretty much going to put me at my limit bioload wise but I might order more of a cleanup crew here in the near future.

Gotcha. I remember you telling me that now. Send me your contact info via PM and I will let you know next time we order.
By the way, do you have a picture of your powder blue?

PM sent...
I'll check my computer, but I have not taken any pics in awhile. I do have a build thread that Scotts started, but I'm waiting on some of my corals to grow out before I put up anymore pics. My PB is about 4 1/2" now, and absolutely stunning. He looks like velvet. Very passive, unlike their reputation, but on the other hand, nobody messes with him. I think it's more about the personality of the individual fish, because I have read where some are pretty mean.

Yeah I have read they can really be terrors if they want to be but we will just have to wait and see. I will go trade him if needed but I'd love to keep him. I did make sure I got one about the same size and my Blue Hippo. I have alot of LR though so hopefully I will be ok.

You have about a 50/50 chance since they are very similar in size and shape. I think it will depend on the personality of the two fishes. Best of luck with him, and put some pics up.

It will be awhile before he meets the Blue Hippo. I'm going to QT for 4 weeks at a minimum. Did you QT yours? If so for how long and in what size tank?

Yes, QT'd in a 55 gal, along with a yellow tang that I got at the same time. Neither ever showed signs of ick, and both are in my DT tank right now, along with a Naso tang. I have had problems trying to introduce other tangs since then, but not from the PB. He's been a trooper the whole time. Personally, I don't think it's the "ick" problem as much as it is the "stress" problem. Stress from all the moving, new tank mates, different water conditions, etc. is what causes more problems IMO.

You're probably right. I have heard from more than 1 person that they have had trouble keeping powder blues alive. I guess I'm going to find out for myself. I'm going to QT him in a 29 though. Did yours hide alot while in QT?

Yes, but this could have been because it was a QT. The tank was very bare, so both the PB and the Yellow were scared out of their wits everytime I walked into the room. I would have to search my threads (NOT), but I remember asking on here about pulling them out early because I was worried about the stress that the 55 QT was causing, verses just putting them in the DT. I finally just pulled them and put them in. But only after I was fairly confident that there was no incoming ick on them.

Well I have some cool pieces in the tank that he can go into and completely hide if he feels the need. Hopefully that will help him acclimate to the tank better.

The only thing extra they get, other than normal feedings, is at least one algea sheet per day on a clip.

So they have to be able to graze all day, correct? So basically you would feed them once in the am, once in the pm and leave them a piece of algae while you are at work during the day.....is that correct?

No, I feed all of my fish only once per day, and at the same time I drop in an algea sheet on a clip. Sometimes I might add another algea clip later on the same day. Tangs will graze around on the rocks most all day, but if you have algea on the rocks now, it won't last long. They still will pick at the rocks. That's why I add the algea sheet, because you won't be able to grow algea on the rocks fast enough.
As far as regular feedings, you can feed twice a day if you like, but you will have to give very small amounts. Some people only feed every other day.
