I'm suddenly geting bright white growth on my live rock. All parameters are very normal, except pH a little high at 8.5. I've never seen this before. Any ideas?

Probably sponge.
I'm going to move your thread over to the reef forum.

I'm in the process of cycling my tank and I have white algae on my coraline.. I'm thinking its a Q-tip sponge growing but its seems to be a little early to tell.

Yes, some of this rock came out of a storage tank where it had been for a month while switching tanks to a tank with 4x96 watt compact bulbs. Huge change, I suppose.

yes i have noticed that with mine. I upgraded my lighting and my coraline is turning white. Will it ever go back to normal. I also noticed that blue/green algae grew on the dead white coraline.
But to help answer the question, it could be a sponge. I have seen sponge growths before and they were whit as anything.
