I have had my 40 Gal. tank going for about 2.5 weeks so far and today I noticed my live rock has white and red areas on it. Is this anything that I should be conerned about?

sounds good to me. the red anyways. is the white just the rock? the red is growth, thats what you want. I bought my rock with it already there!

Yep that would help. Purple is the "best" to have and red might be confused with purple. Also white could be live turning dead, A pic would be great!

Well, first off, that's lava rock. I use it myself but a lot of people will tell you that it's not good for a reef tank. For a FOWLR I don't see anything wrong with it. But if you plan on keeping corals you may as well get it out now.

it doesnt look like lava rock to me. It is just very pourous. The rock in the middle (biggest one) is a bunch of coral pieces stuck together..
