White film on my Live Rocks What is it?

I have live rocks in my tank and first they stunk badly and I did a water change and now I have a film on the live rock. :help: I am not sure if its good bad or possibly even a slight layer of sand that is getting pushed around by the filters. I will say that it appears to be more of a layer of something as when I try to blow it off with water it comes off in a layer rather then just like sand. It also seems to be over the stuff that looks like life was or could be under it.
Thank you
Kevin

Is this a newly established tank? It sounds like the film of sand common to a new tank.

First of all is there any fish or other living things in the tank?
Have you checked for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. What stage are you at here, just starting the tank or what?
That film sounds like some die off is going on, mixed with sand, get ready with more water changes.
If you have a skimmer I would use it. If not, get one.

Hi there,
Is a better picture possible? I found on the back of my LR where there was no light there were some white sponges growing, not particularly inspiring or attractive, but looked like white gue.
Tim.

Yes it is a new tank. And the levels are low nitrates and nitrits but high Amonnia. And unfortunally I had ordered the clean up crew and put them in that is Crabs and snails and 3 feather dusters. They are all still alive it looks. they are in ther for 3 days
will every thing be ok.
