How does this affect the other fish in the system though? I have a foxface 2 damsels and a lmb in the tank also. I thought if I QT him it would be eaiser to catch him for dips and decrease exposure to other fish.

Some salt water fish do naturaly have spots and/or faded color when the lite comes on.
Tangs are well known for doing this. Also some clowns like the tomato and percula have been known to do this. My clown shows small white dots every morning when the lights come on. My tangs, yellow and hippo, also do this. After a while with the lights on they begin to loose the spots and the bright color comes back.
If your fish shows spots in AM but they are gone after a few hours of light... it could just be the normal cycle of the fish. They eat well and I've had the tangs for 2 years and my clown for over a year now. My other fish in the tank show no signs of spots oe any type of disease.
As for the clown hiding. Since he was with a anemone and lived with one, he could be suffering high stress. This would explain the excessive hiding and the extra thick slime coat on the fish. Either find an anemone compatable with your clown or try adding a lot of stress reducing checicals and a little prayer.

No I Don;t believe that the spots are ick as they are gone again when I came home tonight. Maybe they are just a sign of stress on the fish.
As for the QT tank, I filled with water from my main tank that tested fine and added a couple of pieces of LR from the main tank that already had a good growth of coriallane on them. I dipped fish seperately in 2 gallons of areated water in a rubbermaid tote for 45 minutes.
I will be testing both main tank and qt tonight before I go to bed as I have already worked 12 hours today, BF is in hospital to get part of his foot amputated, fish are sick and the kids are home, unfortuantely I am very beat tonight
My reasoning for putting clown in a qt tank was to keep the stress of trying to catch him out of the main tank every other day to a minimum, also I woul dbe stressing out the rest of the fish and inverts in main tank since I would have to dismantle the tank each time.
I appreciate everyone's help with this and their advice.

Since this is the new QT tank, just make sure you check and possible change water daily to minimize chances of water becoming toxic. Also make sure the water temp is stable during this period.
Also not sure how you feed the fish but don't leave any uneaten food in the tank (particularly during this period).

I did a 25% water change on tank because There was some ammonia and Nitrite and Nitrates. fish would not eat this am so I suctioned up the uneaten food. tried a little piece of brine shrimp with spirolina tongiht but he is still hiding. I am really inclined to believe that the spots are stress on the fish. They appear in the am and are gone in the pm. SO I really am not sure the fish was sick at all to begin with. Not sure what to do with him now. I will keep checking water daily and doing water changes if needed.

Just wanted to update that I have returned the clown to main tank, He is swimming and eating so far. no white spots.
