I just bought him today, he's quarantined with some methylene blue and not eating (new arrival), but I noticed some big white spots on his fins. Is this some type of fungus? What can I do to help him? thanx in advance :help:
Stop using the methylene blue and do some water changes using water from your display [if the quality of water in the display is good].
Are these spots ich like? I really can not tell from the picture you posted. Can you get a shot of the tail fin?
Anyone!?
I won't be here during the week(- univ.) , so I need to know if it's better to put him in the display tank or leave him in the quarantine. The problem with leaving him in QT is that I can't monitor the water parameters till thursday. Is it possible for him to pass it on to the ones in the display tank?
Well right now he's at my house, and I won't see him till thursday, but I've asked my Mom to keep an eye on him. If it's ich, I hope being alone in the QT helps him. Since he's not eating I'm not so worried about the water paremeters. I'll post any updates. thanx though
Sure... he was in QT but today I took him out because he seemed too stressed there. Water parameters in display are ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates about 30 (last week they were at 20 I'll have to check that out) ph 8.2 Salinity 1.021 temp around 83....I have the chiller..but have to do some electrical work before turning it on. He's really active, but I've seen him puff up lots of times. Has been in the display for about 3 hours and no puffing yet. Still not eating, maybe tomorrow when he sees the others he'll take a bite.
what are you feeding the fish? I would try to offer some sort of live food (brine shrimp, black worms, ghost shrimp - no fresh water feeders!) until he gets comfortable in your tank.
update!
He has been eating since last week, everything's fine... but the white spots are still there :notsure:
I feed him different seafoods, shrimp, squid, all with zoecon. Hope those spots will go away some day.
That really looks like ich. He should be treated with hyposalinity. And now that you removed him from the QT and placed in your tank, have other fish been exposed?
Can ich be that big? it's like 4 spots on each side fin... the other fins don't have any spots. He's been with the other fish for about two weeks, no sign of ich on the others.
