White Spots on Rocks

I took most of the rock out of my tank to deal with an algae problem (in addition to changing the water). In cleaning the rock I noticed hundreds of tiny white spots on the rock - almost like calcium deposits. I'd post a pic but I'm not at home right now. It's been on the glass in the past and I simply brush it off, but with me getting ready to restock my tank, I want to make sure that it isn't something to be concerned with.
Anybody ever run into the same thing or have any idea what it may be?

Yeah. The live rock has been in the tank for about 3 years. The spots collected on the back of the rock and not on the front. Do I need to worry about them at all or does that suggest that my calcium level is too high?
It's a FOWLR tank.
