White Spots

What are these white spots that are appearing on my rock and even on my snails? Are they bad?

I learned that those little white things are a type of worm, ( forget which at the moment) however my LFS said that they are not bad and are nothing to worry about, I have a bunch of these too and they don't appear to be harming anything at all.
