White stringy things growing from my LR

What is this stuff? Ive had this rock for a couple years now and these white stringy things have just appeared within the last month. A couple small ones would come out only at night but now there are lots of big ones that are out all the time. What are they? Do I need to remove the rock from the tank before they spread? The rock is on the sand far from anything else. Thanks in advance.

YEA YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN??? I have the exact same things on my zoos as well and I posted recently. They said it is some sort of sponge but I highly doubt it. It grows off rocks in a branching fashion and sorta smothers your zoos in the stalk area...I have the exact same problem.

This looks like what I have growing on a number of rocks. It is definitely a type of sponge in my case. I just pull them off when they are growing where I don't want them.

Fine then! It's a sponge! haha. Now how can one get rid of it...it seems impossible to detangle and remove manually.

It does look like a sponge at the base, it kinda covers the rock, on top of the zoos base. If it is a sponge, wont it die if you take it out of the water for a minute or so? The zoos would be fine of course, maybe i'll try that. Thanks.
