White Stripe on Yellow Tang

I purchased a Yellow Tang four days ago and have had him in a 10 gallon QT tank since then. Seemed healthy, very rich yellow color and other than being shy, he seemed pretty good. Thought that maybe he wasn't eating the seaweed selects I've been putting in there, but last night I caught him nibbling, and this morning it was all gone.
When I saw him this morning, there was a pale creme colored stripe down each side. The fish is about 4-5 inches long and the stripe runs from just behind his eye (it actually starts on his body about 2 mm short of his gills) and runs back until about 7 mm before the protrusions on his tail. It doesn't follow the lateral line, it looks almost like someone painted him, it's that uniform. Oh, the stripe is only about 1 cm wide.
He seemed kind of pale, and when I turned the overhead light aquarium light on, his color seemed to come back, but the stripe remained. I put some more seaweed selects in and he started nibbling as soon as I was out of sight.
He seems to be a good fish, doesn't like me, but comes right up to the glass when the ladies in the office come in to see him.
Could this be stress? Should I worry about this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, at least I can breathe a little better. He's going into a 75 with 80 lbs LR, two firefishes and a lawnmower blenny for companions. Thanks again for the info!
