I've had a salt water tank with fish only for about alittle over a month, the only death I had in the tank was a royal gramma and to the best of my knowledge it died because of the heat (since my landlord didn't fix my AC on time =/ ) anyways .... I decided to start adding provisions for a coral or anenome and bought about 10 lbs of live rock. At this point I had 2 percula clowns, 1 green chromis, 1 scooter blenny, 1 royal gramma, and 3 red hermit crabs. After I added the rock to the tank I noticed a white film growing on a portion of it. The film is growing on a red crater-like growth on the rock, I can easily peel it off but it grows back rapidly. This leads me to belive this is some sort of dangerous microorganism. At the same time I notice the gramma begin to act funny and it looks like he has a translucent film growing on his tail, I put him in a small Q tank and gave him rid ich for a few days, he seemed to recover but eventually died this morning. I've noticed that one of the clowns is getting small white spots near his anal fin. I'm not sure what is going on or if it is a combo of things, but I want to stop it before it kills anymore of my fish. I read through the forum and lowering the salinity to 1.009 seems like a good idea. Do you think this will help? Will this harm the live rock, or hermit crabs? If so what should I do about the white stuff on the live rock? Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to include all the details. Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
