Hey really quick in addition to some nice purple and pink corraline algae. It looks like somebody painted some of my rocks white. What is that stuff? Thanks.
That sounds exactly like bleached coralline. Give it a little time and the color will return. It's new to you so it could have happened for several reasons before it came to you....not enough calcium, too much light, lighting change etc. It will adjust and come back given your tank chemistry is in line.
yes, my chemistry is "ideal" now - 0, 0, 10, 8.2, 1.0225 @ 78 deg.
there is such a large blotch of it, it will look truly beautiful if and when color returns to it. it was white on the rock when i received it.
A little patience and all will be well. When I moved tanks and changed lighting I had quite a few areas that bleached. It's kind of fun watching it turn, gets light pinkish then slowly darker. Only it won't be really that slow, probably only take a month or so. It's calcerous (sp?) that is why it is white. What lighting do you have?
My calcium was low when i started cycling the tank with the rock. Was still low after cycling. I have since been able to bring it up to around 400. I found out my mg level was very low once I brought that up was able to maintain the calcium levels. I have Custom Sea Life 400 watts VHO. Combo full spectrum and actinic. I do see parts of it turning pink purple. Also I had the lights off alot during the cycling to prevent unwanted algae. Past 2 weeks T started the lights at 5 hours a day and worked from there.. Anyway thnaks for the replies guys.
