I run my skimmer 24/7 and recently read that someone runs theirs only a certain amount of hours a day. Is this a good idea? I would do this if I can because I don't like hearing it all the time. Suggesstions?

I only run my skimmer for about 3-4 hours a day............I used to run it 24/7 but had an issue with it overflowing sometimes so now I start it at about 5 am and it turns off right before I go to work.
I believe its actually benificial to my corals because I do my feedings at around 7-8pm and and the skimmer would suck up all the micro food that the corals feed on before they actually have a chance to eat it...........so by only running it a few hours it keeps the good stuff in the water longer but still has a chance to remove the bad stuff on a daily basis.............THis is just me opinion...........I could be completly wrong

I run mine 24/7. It takes out MUCH less now than it did when I first started using it, but my tank is pretty lightly stocked.

Good thinking about the feeding. Raises a good question. Does this make sense? Should a skimmer be shut off when feeding coral. "Kent stuff"

When I feed I turn the skimmer off overnight. But i only feed every 3 days so the rest of the time the skimmer runs. I feed at night and leave the skimmer off till the next morning.
