I placed a small pulsing xenia polyp in my tank this weekend. It was doing fine till this morning--now it's gone.
Here is a list of suspects:
1. Emerald Crab
2. Peppermint Shrimp
3. Cleaner Shrimp
4. Lettuce Nudibranch
5. Blue Leg Hermit
6. Scarlet Hermit

I have all those same creatures in my tank, i have lots and lots of 3 different kinds of xenia's. I have only ever had 1 creature dine on them, and he was moved to my FOWLR real fast. It was a starfish. Xenia's can detach as they do move around, some of mine have gone behind the rock and are in little light, but they stil come out, they are now moving up the glass lookin for the light. In the past i have had some die and they disappear just about over night, looked good at bedtime, woke up to a small jelly mass. I use my pompom xenia's as a rough measure of the ph in the tank. When the ph is perfect they will pulse away, if they ever are just swaying and hardly pulseing, the ph is usally low. PH plays a magor factor in the way they pulse.

Keep looking I had a clove polyp disappear and thought someone had done him in for sure. I ha d looked high and low then gave up...Two days later after some encouragaement from this site did another look and there he was curled up on himself behind one rock and under the edge of another. Because of his coloration and being sucked (about a quarter of his noraml size) when I first looked he appeared to be part of the rock.
SO keep looking, I bet he show up

I found it last night crawling out from under a rock like some kind of severed hand from a horror flick. I rapped it back to a rock with tolene--then this morning the Green Emerald Crab was sitting right in front of it looking through the tolene at it. I tried to catch him but he scurried off.

My peppermints will eat anything that detaches, so they would be the first to go under the interrogation light if it were me!!
